Tempted by P.C. Cast
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It feels good, but she knows it’s not over yet, not even close. She has banished Kalona and Neferet and his nasty children, the Raven mockers, saved her best friend, Stevie Rae and her new warrior, Stark. But her problems are far from over; they’re only just beginning, and about to get worse.
The biggest and most threatening problem is that she knows that she has not destroyed Kalona, and has no idea where he is now or what him and Neferet have planed. Not to mention that she has recently discovered that she is the reincarnation of Kalona’s soul mate and lover, A-ya, and that he continues to visit her in her dreams. To add to this she can sense that there is something off with Stevie Rae and is sure that there is something that she is hiding from her, but she has no idea what or how dangerous it could be. But Stevie Rae is not the only one keeping things to herself, Zoey is too. So how is it fair for her to expect her friends to tell her every thing when she won’t for the same, but shouldn’t she be able to tell Stevie Rae, her best friend?
All Zoey can think about is how easy it used to be, before she turned into a vampire fledgling and started at the House of Night. Back when her biggest worries were about her next big math test and the latest fight that she and Heath had gotten in to. Sometimes she wishes that she could just go back, back to before her life was turned upside down. But she can’t and has to accept that and work on figuring out what has to be done next.
So what is next for Zoey and her gang? Can she fix things up between her and Stevie Rae, will they ever be able to share all their secrets again, and help each other solve theirs problems? And what is she planning to do about Kalona? In the end will she be able to destroy him or is their soul deep connection to much to fight, can she resist his seductive powers or will A-ya over power her will?
I the latest book of the House of Night series, you will discover the answers to some of these questions and more. I found that this book was an improvement from the last, but definitely not my favourite so far. It starts slow and I find that there is a bit too much detail in the beginning, which takes up a lot of the book and causes that ending to feel a bit rushed. However the ending in this latest book leaves you will many questions and really wanting to know what will happen next. It also really sets up a good base for the next book. I think that if done right the next book could be the best one yet.
